For the long term, research is being conducted on the production of hydrogen by means of nuclear energy. For the shorter term, research towards the improvement of the reliability of light water reactors is being carried out. The aim of this research is to establish reliable and maintenance-free technology for light water reactors. This is done through the application of materials that are highly resistant to environmentally assisted cracking.
