Coal is an abundant fuel which is expected to last for a long time as a resource. Research related to advanced technology of coal fired power generation is being carried out. Two solutions are being studied: (1) the integrated gasification of a gas combined cycle and (2) high efficient pulverized coal fired power generation. The main steam pressure and temperature of the pulverized coal fired plant are raised to 30 MPa and 700 ºC, respectively. Under these severe conditions, the mechanisms of material degradation are studied.
